RESULT: Signet United  5  Grays Cosmos  2

 Fortunately it was a dry and extremely happy Barmy Army that strolled away from Wickford today as our Young Guns once again ensured that the three points on offer were well and truly locked up in The Signet vault.

 This game was not quite the expected stroll in the park that a few of us might have thought in a first half that saw The Boys first take a 1-0 lead courtesy of a Jack Mason goal after just five minutes. Grays however refused to lie down and equalised three minutes later. Disaster struck with four minutes of the half left when a Grays free-kick, that, due to Signet holding a high line became a dash to the goal that saw our opponents win the chase and the subsequent one on one gave Ryan no chance enabling our opponents to take a 1-2 lead into the half time interval.

 If the first half was not quite up to the standard we know The Lads can produce the second half saw them take control and once again finish a match very much stronger than the opposing side. Despite having a couple of opportunities to level early in the half it took a Brandon lob after thirty six minutes to bring the sides level. From this position The Boys began to boss the game and did not really look in too much trouble for the rest of the match. Twelve minutes later another Brandon lob from all of eighteen yards restored Signet’s lead. The Grays goal was now leading a charmed life with shots going over, wide and into the grateful ‘keepers gloves. The pressure finally told on fifty five minutes when Jake McCabe got himself on the scoresheet following some good hold up play by Brandon. The fifth and final goal was trademark Signet from deep in our own half Billy found Beck’s who cleverly switched play to the right enabling Billy Holloway to send a slide-rule pass down the wing for Brandon who crossed deep into the Grays box where a gleeful Jack Killworth at the far post produced a cool finish that enabled The Boys to record an emphatic 5-2 victory.
