BAD DAY AT THE OFFICE We arrived at the home of Corringham at 10am for a 10.30 start, Jamie warmed up the lads before kick-off on a glorious sunny day.The line up was Lewis in goal, Josh and Callm at the back, with Davey in the middle of Frankie and Adam, Ashley was up front as a lone striker. Tommy, James and John were on the subs bench. We kicked off against a big side and two divisions below us and from the start they didn't give us any leeway and started piling on the pressure going for every ball, we had a chance to score early on into the match with a goal mouth scramble, the ball pinging off the players legs before spilling out to Adam who was on the edge of the box striking a speculative shot which rebounded out of play. After that we were under a lot of pressure which resulted in a goal from the opposition, even at the restart we gave the ball away to easily letting Corringham have a shot on goal which produced a great save from Lewis. Josh was covering well at the back with Callum, but towards the end of the half another goal came in from a corner to give the opposition a 2-0 lead which to us parents watching knew that it would be a hard uphill task for us to come back from two goals behind. The ref blew up for half time and the Lions came off with an unusual two goal deficit to pull back in the second half. Den made a three man swap trying to change the scoreline, with Tommy coming in for Frankie in midfield, John coming on for Adam and James on for Ashley, Davey was pushed up front taking on the strikers role, leaving all three subs in midfield, John in the centre, Tommy to his left and James to his right. This half we seemed to play with a bit more conviction and determination but with a two goal lead Corringham had the confidence to keep the game tight, we had a few chances in the second half and were unlucky not to get at least one goal back with shots coming in from Josh, Davey and a powerful shot from John superbly saved by the Corringham keeper, but all credit to Corringham they kept us out and made us look ordinary. When the ref blew for full time although we had lost we could not complain about the scoreline, we have just got to put it down to a bad day at the office. Good luck to Corringham in the next round. Unlucky Lions we know we can play better lets put it behind us and concentrate on the next game.
